Carlo off to a good start in Motegi
23-05-08Carlo van Dam started the Formula 3 weekend at Motegi very well. During the two free practice sessions, Carlo ended the day with the fastest laptime (1:46.350), in front of Kunimoto and Yasuda.
Carlo: “The first free practice went very well. I drove on old tyres, but I was able to put down a good lap. It was a very hot day, more than 30 degrees. Because of the hot weather, the asphalt was much warmer as it was during the test. The car was sliding more and I had much more oversteer. We also had some small problems with cooling the brakes.”
“During the second practice, we changed some more things on the car. Due to the changes, I got oversteer and understeer. I’m not sure these changes made the car better. On new tyres, I only could drive 2 flying laps. I clocked the fastest time during my last lap, but I even could have been a few tenths faster.”
“Tomorrow it will be a lot cooler, around 20 degrees. I expect we can fight for pole position, and we need to fight for poles. Especially on Sunday, it will be an advantage to start in front as there’s a lot of rain expected!”
