Carlo van Dam again quick Okayama01-11-09
Dutch racing driver Carlo van Dam was today the fastest GT1-driver during the second 500 KM-race of the Asian Le Mans Series held at the circuit of Okayama, but still he and his team mates had to be content with third place. After a coming together with another car, one of those two team mates pitted to have the car checked, which cost the crew of the Saleen S7R a lap. Despite Carlo then chasing through the field and rapidly catching up with the leaders, the gap with the leaders was too big to be bridged before the finish.
“Yesterday I reckon we would have won if the suspension hadn’t failed and today I think we would have had a good chance of winning as well”, says Carlo, who raced for the French team Larbre Competition at Okayama. “Just like yesterday, my team mate Berville did the start. He made contact with a Lamborghini and then pitted to have the car checked. That stop unfortunately cost us a lap. By the time I got in the car, the gap with the leaders was 75 seconds and I managed to make up a minute. So like yesterday it went quite well, my lap times were consistent and I set the fastest GT1-lap of the race. When Lemeret took over for the final part of the race, we were only 15 seconds behind the second placed car, which he caught, but in the end he was one tenth of a second short to take second and thus we finished third. For me it was a good weekend all in all, it was nice to race in Japan again and the team was happy with my performance. There is not much more you can do.”
Carlo will test with the Hitech-team for which he will race in the Macau Formula 3 Grand Prix, before joining the PSV-team in Spain for the final rounds of the Superleague Formula.<- Back to: News
