Carlo van Dam in Asian Le Mans Series

Dutch racing driver Carlo van Dam will participate in the two opening rounds of the 2009 Asian Le Mans Series 2009 on October 31/November 1. At the Okayama circuit in Japan he will that weekend drive a Saleen S7R for the French Larbre Competition-team.

After America and Europe, Asia now also has its own Le Mans Series; a championship comprising long distance races organised by the organiser of the Le Mans 24 Hours-race. The Asian Le Mans Series this year kicks off in Japan with two races of 500 KM each at Okayama during the weekend of October 31/November 1. Carlo van Dam will join Larbre Competition, a French team that has been successful in endurance racing running a variety of cars, including Ferrari’s. In the Asian Le Mans Series Larbre has entered a Saleen S7R.

Carlo raced a Saleen earlier this year in the Spa 24 Hours-event and enthusiastically accepted Larbre’s offer to do the two races at Okayama. “I know the track very well, Larbre is a top team and the Le Mans Series appeals to me”, Carlo says. “So I am looking forward to doing these two races. I was happy to fit them into what has become quite a busy schedule for this autumn, as I am also doing the final rounds of the Superleague Formula at Jarama as well as the Macau Formula 3 Grand Prix. Hitech Racing, the team for which I will race at Macau, has been very helpful and made sure that their testing program would not clash with Okayama and now I can test for them in England and race for Larbre in Japan, so everything fell into place nicely.”

“After doing the Spa 24 Hours this summer, I have developed an interest in endurance racing and since winning the Japanese Formula 3 championship last year, I was looking forward to an opportunity to race in Japan again. The fact that it will be two races is a bonus of course. Given the calibre of the Larbre-team, I of course aim to claim victory in the GT1-class, but obviously I do not underestimate the competition, in particular the Aston Martin entered by the Japanese Team Nova should do well too.”
