Carlo van Dam joins PSV in Superleague Formula04-09-09
PSV has signed Carlo van Dam as its new driver for the next three events of the Superleague Formula. Today he was officially presented by PSV-director Marcel van den Bunder. Van Dam won Formula 3 championships in 2007 and 2009 and will first race for PSV in the Superleague Formula-rounds at the circuit of Estoril in Portugal this coming weekend.
“With Carlo we have opted for a more experienced driver”, says Marcel van den Bunder, who welcomed the new PSV-driver this morning (Thursday) in the Philips soccer stadium in Eindhoven. From Estoril onwards, Van Dam replaces Dominick Muermans in PSV’s Superleague Formula-car.
Van Dam (23) has been racing since he was eight years old and spent much of his childhood years at the karting track near Eindhoven Airport. His most significant recent achievements include winning the German and Japanese Formula 3 championship titles in the last two years. “To join a championship in the middle of the season is never easy, but it is a spectacular series and the PSV-team seems to be well organised”, Carlo says. “I hope to get them some good results in the remaining races and improve a bit more their position in the championship standings. I will try my best.”
Today in Eindhoven Carlo received a PSV-shirt featuring number 5, the racing number of the PSV-car in the Superleague Formula. Yesterday already, the series was boosted by another new driver: Frenchman Sebastien Bourdais will make his debut too at Estoril, so the Superleague Formula-field now comprises four former F1-drivers.
“I hope we can be on the podium”, Carlo sums up his ambitions. “But I will be driving a car and in a series that are new to me, so the first event in Portugal will be a challenge no matter what.”<- Back to: News
