Carlo van Dam returns to Formula 3 Euroseries

Dutch racing driver Carlo van Dam will this weekend return to the Formula 3 Euroseries at the circuit of Barcelona. In Spain he will race a Dallara-Mercedes of the French SG Formula-team. Carlo raced in the Euroseries on behalf of Volkswagen earlier this year with Kolles & Heinz Union before leaving the poorly performing team at the end of June.

“I got a call from team boss Stéphane [Guérin] who helped me a lot during the time I raced for SG in Formula Renault”, Carlo says. “He asked me to race in Formula 3 for him at Barcelona this weekend and given our relationship and our past, I was of course happy to accept his offer.”

Carlo has had an eventful year so far. After dominatingly winning the Japanese Formula 3 title, success in the Japanese GT championship and an impressive Formula Nippon-test, he was a wanted man in Japan at the end of 2008. But when Japan’s racing scene was hit hard by the economic crisis last winter, the much slimmed down grids provided no opportunities. Besides his F3-program with Volkswagen which he decided to end himself, Carlo competed in the 24 hour races at Nürburgring and Spa, and races in the Superleague Formula. He now returns to Formula 3 with an open mind. “I always want to drive and perform as well as possible. It will be interesting to see what SG and I can achieve here together. In the Euroseries the competition is extremely close, everything has to be just right if you want to get a good result. After tomorrow’s free practice we will know more.”
