Carlo van Dam’s patience tested once again

Dutchman Carlo van Dam today finished in nineteenth position in the fourth race of the 2009 Formula 3 Euroseries - the same result as in yesterday’s round three. This weekend at the Lausitzring in Germany, the lack of pace of the Dallara-Volkswagen of Formula 3 debutants Kolles & Heinz Union - the team for which Carlo races this year - was underlined once again. After today’s race, van Dam, who was placed in the team as VW-works driver for this season, stressed that action has now to be taken if Kolles & Heinz Union are to solve the problems it is facing.

“Unfortunately, already before the start today, we knew what we were heading for”, Carlo says. “After the first races at Hockenheim and yesterday’s race here, there was no doubt about that. The nature of our problems is clear and these problems don’t go away just like that. As long as they are not being addressed, I am under no illusion. This is my third year in Formula 3 and I have won two championships in the previous two years, so I think one could say I have a pretty good idea of what is needed to win in F3. I have suggested several solutions already, but since the first test not much has been done or changed. But now things really must change, otherwise with this car we will simply be stuck at the back of the field like today.”

“I had a good start and got past four or five cars, but then it was the same old story again. People came flying past me on the straights, sometimes two or three at the same time. In the end, someone hit me and spun me around, but the others would have find a way passed me regardless. As said: something really has got to happen now.”
