Double podium finish at Yeongam

Yeongam - Dutchman Carlo van Dam clinched a couple of second places today during the opening rounds of the 2011 South-Korean Super Race championship at the F1-circuit of Yeongam. Racing for the South-Korean EXR Team 106, Carlo stepped onto the podium after both the Super 6000 and

Super 3800 race.

“It really was a very entertaining weekend, because the ambiance in the team and on the track was just great”, Carlo says. “As I had not done any testing with EXR Team 106 before the start of the season, this was my first time working with the team and the two cars. During qualifying for the Super 6000-race, I set the second best time and in the race I finished second as well. In terms of speed our car was not yet able to match the front runner’s performance, so second really was the best we could get out of it for now.

“We did not manage to properly setup our Super 3800 Hyundai Genesis GT on Saturday and as a result I had to start sixth, because the Super 3800-class is very competitive and the front runners are racing within a few tenths of a second from each other. On Sunday the car still did not handle well, but in what turned out to be a very exciting race, I managed to get up to second, so everybody in the team was pretty pleased. All in all, this was a fun
and educational weekend during which we managed to get the maximum out of what we had. If we can now improve the performance of our cars for the next races, I am sure we can fight for wins.”

This coming weekend, Carlo will race in the opening round of the Japanese GT championship, driving a Porsche for the Japanese Team Direction.
