Carlo finishes sixth at GT race on Autopolis

Last weekend Team Cusco invited Carlo van Dam to participate in the Japanese Super GT championship. After a difficult start to the weekend Carlo succeeded with his teammate Yamano in securing a top ten finish in the GT300 class.

Carlo speaks about the weekend and the race: “The weekend went quite well. On Friday and Saturday I wasn’t able to drive much. Sunday morning was a lot better, I even realised a better time than my experienced teammate Yamano. He is a three times champion in this class. I was surprised when the team told me that I could do the start of the race.”

“That start went very good. I began the race as fourteenth, passes someone at the start, another driver in turn one and in the same lap I overtook another two cars. That meant I was driving in tenth position after the first lap.”

“It was important to start the race in a good manner, so we could keep our position stable and count on a good result. Almost the entire race we held the tenth position, despite some problems with the tyres. half way through the race I handed over the steering wheel to Yamano. After overtaking some other cars he finished as sixth.”

“The end result was very good. I expected a top ten finish, but sixth place came as a surprise. I was quicker than my teammate during the race and that is always positive. The team is satisfied and I am too. It was a nice experience and I am looking forward for the last race at the Fuji Speedway.”
