Final racing weekend for Carlo on Sugo

On the Sugo circuit Carlo van Dam has been able to fight with the best drivers during the free practice sessions. After taking the title two weeks ago on the Fuji track, the Dutch driver is calm and relaxed. This weekend the TOM’s Toyota Team has been preparing the car for the last races of the year, among which the race at the famous Macau circuit.

Carlo: “On Thursday we sacrificed our whole day of testing trying the Macau-setup as intensively as possible. We are free to do that because we’re not focussing on this particular weekend that much on Thursday. I did manage to set a few lap times, but those times say nothing about our form so far.”

Nevertheless Carlo is pleased with the results on Friday. “I never thought a 1:15.0 lap would be possible, but somehow I even got a 1:14.8 out of the car. But that is only today, who knows what will happen tomorrow. On a short circuit like this, I don’t reckon things will suddenly change. The modifications to the car are working just fine, which is good for my confidence.”

Carlo van Dam wil be fighting for pole position tomorrow during the qualifying sessions. “On a dry Sugo track I definitely think pole is possible. But there is quite a good chance that we’ll be driving in the rain. Yasuda had been quick all year, especially in wet conditions and today he was right up there as well. Hopefully I can also be quick tomorrow in the wet.”
