Perfect ending for Carlo van Dam

Toyota Team TOM’s-coureur Carlo van Dam has wrapped up the Japanese Formula 3 Championship in perfect style. Today, at a rain soaked Sugo circuit, he won the last race of the year from pole position, scoring his ninth win of the season as well as his eighteenth podium finish in as many races. Consequently, the 2008 Japanese Formula 3 champion has not only clinched the title, but won half of the races as well and finished in the top three in each and every race - a unique achievement. On November 16, Carlo will race in the Macau Formula 3 Grand Prix for Toyota Team TOM’s and tomorrow he will test a Formula Nippon car for the team at Sugo.

“Obviously, I am happy to have rounded off the championship with two more victories”, says Carlo, who yesterday won the seventeenth race of the year at Sugo as well. “Today it was raining quite hard during the race and that made winning it even more enjoying. To be honest, the car’s handling was not perfect today, but I had a good start and managed to keep the rest behind me for the rest of the race. Looking back, this has been a fantastic season. Toyota Team TOM’s and I have worked hard together all year and got the best out of it, winning half the races and the title and being on the podium all the time.”

“Tomorrow [Monday] it is back to business; we will first do the Formule Nippon-test and then we will of course start preparing for the Macau Grand Prix.”

Result Japans Formula 3 championship, race 18 (Sugo, 21 September):
1. C. van Dam (Ned - Dallara) - 37 min 35 sec 245
2. K. Kunimoto (Jap - Dallara) on 0 sec 543
