3rd position at VLN race Nürburgring

Dutchman Carlo van Dam yesterday finished third in class with the Subaru works team in a round of the German Langstreckenpokal staged at the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring. Subaru participated in this race as part of its preparations for the 24 hour race at the same circuit on June 25-26. Carlo shared the WRX STI tS with German Marcel Engels and Japan’s Kohta Sasaki.

“Subaru has built an all new car for this year, the WRX STI tS, which is a bit lighter, better handling and quicker”, says Carlo, who last year also raced in the Nürburgring 24 Hours with Subaru. “This weekend’s six hour race was part
of our testing program for the 24 hour event next month and we can be satisfied, because already during Friday’s practice it was quite clear that we have made progress since 2010. The WRX STI tS is essentially a road car which
means that some of the fastest cars racing in our class should basically be a bit quicker, but we had a faultless race and so we managed to get the car into the top three. Maybe we will even be classified second as there was a
protest against the winning Audi which is now going to be checked by the scrutineers.

“The most important thing, though, is that we have again done a lot of laps here. If we will do another faultless race in June, there is no reason we shouldn't finish high up the ranks. And I wouldn’t mind if it rains for 24 hours, because when it rained during the race this weekend, we instantly benefitted from our car’s all wheel drive. But regardless of what the conditions will
be like, we are well prepared and will be aiming for a good result. I am very much looking forward to the 24 hour race. It really is a great event, the Subuaru-team is very professional, I have good and experienced team mates and the Nordschleife is a fantastic track.”
