Carlo van Dam dominates first qualifying at Nurburgring

This morning Carlo van Dam started in Germany his third weekend of the ATS Formula 3 championship. Straight from the start of the first qualifying session, Carlo was able to find the right setup and balance of his car which marked a good beginning of the weekend.

At a sunny circuit and 25 degrees, Carlo drove a good qualifying on the short version of the Nurburgring. Within three laps, the qualifying was decided in advance of the driver from Vlaardingen, Netherlands. Carlo: “I’m looking back to a good start of the weekend. We were able to find a good balance and speed within the car from the beginning. We did had a bit of oversteer, but that’s not a big issue on this circuit.”

“The qualifying was actually decided within three laps. The time that I clocked within this three laps was very good. In the end I drove eight qualifying laps and set a  best time of 1:35.764. The number two, Vietoris, qualified almost four tenths behind me. This gives me a good position for the race on Saturday morning.”

This pole position is Carlo’s fourth of the season. The second qualifying will start tomorrow in the afternoon. After the qualifying, all the Formula 3 drivers will drive a special lap on the famous Nordschleife.
