Carlo van Dam side lined at Fuji

Dutchman Carlo van Dam was denied racing in today’s Japanese Super GT-race at the circuit of Fuji after the engine of the Porsche he this year races for Direction Racing failed during the second practice session and the team had to withdraw from the race.

“Not being able to do the race here was such a pity, because we were on the pace”, Carlo says. “In the first practice session we set third fastest time on hard tyres and a full tank and we then managed to improve the car’s setup on old tyres. So we were amongst the frontrunners, but then unfortunately the engine failed without warning on the second lap of the second session. We don’t know what went wrong yet, only that the engine could not be repaired in time and a spare engine was not available. The good news, however, is
that in terms of speed we instantly were able to run among the fastest cars in our [GT300] class, so I look forward to the next Super GT-round held later this month [May 22] at the circuit of Okayama.”

A week earlier, on May 14, Carlo will join the Subaru works team to race a Subaru WRX STI tS at the ‘Norschleife’ of the Nürburging in a round of the VLN-championship as part of Subaru’s preparation for the 24 hour race held on June 25-26 on the same circuit.
